Chuck Posthumus grew up in Chicago, the “city of architecture.” After graduating from the University of Illinois, he moved to Grand Rapids, where he worked at a large firm designing shopping centers, school and university buildings. He also contributed to city planning projects in Anchorage, Alaska. In 1981, Chuck founded his own diverse practice, which included the adaptive reuse of historic Grand Rapids brick warehouses, as well as new residential condominiums, single-family homes, and professional buildings. Today, his practice focuses primarily on custom single-family commissions for individuals and developers.

Consultation
We offer a range of services to help you determine the best path for your project. We can assess whether your site is buildable, whether a remodel is feasible, or if a tear-down is the best option. We charge hourly for our services, allowing you to choose the amount of advice you need, whether it's just a few hours or an in-depth exploration for a developed concept. No matter the size of your project, we're here to share our expertise to help you make informed decisions.
Concept Design
The Conceptual Design Phase is the first and arguably most critical stage of an architectural project. It's where abstract ideas, client requirements, and site constraints are transformed into a cohesive vision.
Drawings
Complex or simple the scale of the project and who the builder is all make a difference. The drawings are the primary guide for builders. They have all the details and instructions, legal requirements, and artistic intent. Without these drawings, a design remains a dream that cannot be priced, permitted, or built.
